Best Homemade Lasagna Recipe
Most Amazing Lasagna Recipe is best recipe for home-made Italian style lasagna. The balance between layers of noodles, cheese & home-made bolognese sauce is perfection!
Ingredients
- Lean ground beef - 1 Pound
- Sweet Italian sausage - 1 Pound
- Large white onion diced - 1
- Garlic cloves minced - 5
- Can crushed tomatoes - 1 (28 ounce)
- Cans tomato paste - 2 (6 ounce)
- Can tomato sauce - 1 (15 ounce)
- White sugar - 2 Tablespoons
- White wine - 1/2 Cup
- Chopped fresh basil - 1/2 Cup
- Fennel seeds - 1 Teaspoon
- Ground oregano - 1 Teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 Teaspoon
- Ground black pepper - 1/4 Teaspoon
- Chopped fresh parsley - 1/4 Cup
- Lasagna noodles - 1 Pound
- Ricotta cheese - 30 Ounces
- Chopped fresh parsley - 2 Tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 Teaspoon
- Egg - 1 Large
- Ground nutmeg - 1/8 Teaspoon
- Thinly sliced mozzarella cheese about 24 slices - 1 Pound
- Freshly grated Parmesan cheese - 1 Cup
Preparation:
Step 1:
In large pot over medium-heat, add ground beef & ground sausage. Use a spoon to break up meat into small pieces. Then Add onion & garlic & cook till meat is well browned, stirring constantly. Stir in fresh basil, sugar, fennel, 1/2 teaspoon salt, oregano, pepper, & 1/4 cup chopped parsley. Pour tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce & wine. Stir well & bring to simmer. Reduce heat to low & simmer 1 to 4 hours, stir occasionally.
Step 2:
Place lasagna noodles in the bottom of pan. Pour hot tap-water directly over noodles, making sure pasta is completely immersed in water. Let them soak for 30 mins, then drain & discard water.
Step 3:
In mixing bowl, mix ricotta-cheese with remaining 2 tablespoons of parsley, egg, 1/2 teaspoon salt & nutmeg. Refrigerate til ready to assemble lasagna.
Step 4:
Pre-heat oven to 375degrees. Lightly grease a deep 9 x 13 pan.
Step 5:
To assemble, spread about 1cup meat sauce in bottom of prepared pan. Place 4 noodles on top. Spread with 1 / 3 of ricotta cheese mixture. Top with 1/4 of mozzarella-cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat-sauce over mozzarella, then sprinkle with 1/4cup parmesan-cheese. Repeat layering two more times to create three complete layers. To finish, place final layer of pasta, topped with another 1-cup of meat-sauce to cover pasta. Top with remaining mozzarella & Parmesan-cheese. Cover loosely with aluminum-foil.
Step 6:
Bake in pre-heated oven for 25 mins. Remove foil & bake an additional 25 mins to allow cheese to brown. Serve hot.
Notes
- The white wine can be replaced with red wine, beef broth or chicken broth.
- After preparing & assembling your lasagna, you can cover & refrigerate for upto 48-hours before baking. Freezing lasagna of this size is possible, but will require very long baking time in order to heat all the way through.
