Sesame Chicken Recipe
The sesame-chicken is crispy chicken pieces tossed in a sweet & savory honey sesame-sauce. This version of recipe is far even better than what you would like to get from a restaurant!
Ingredients
For the chicken:
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts - 1-1/2 lbs (cut into 1 inch pieces)
- Salt - to taste
- Pepper - to taste
- All purpose flour - 1/2 Cup
- Eggs - 2 (beaten)
- Cornstarch - 1/2 Cup
- Oil - For frying
For the sauce:
- Vegetable oil - 1 Teaspoon
- Ketchup - 1/2 Cup
- Cornstarch - 2 Teaspoons
- Sesame seeds - 2 Tablespoons
- Minced fresh garlic - 1 Teaspoon
- Honey - 1/4 Cup
- Soy sauce - 1/3 cup (reduced sodium if possible)
- Rice vinegar - 2 Tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 3 Tablespoons
- Sliced green onions - 2 Tablespoons
- Toasted sesame oil - 1 Tablespoon
Preparation:
Step 1:
Place eggs, pepper & salt in bowl, stir to mix.
Step 2:
Place 1/2 cup of cornstarch & flour in a shallow-bowl or on plate. Stir to mix.
Step 3:
Dip each piece of chicken into egg-mixture, then into flour. Repeat the process with all chicken.
Step 4:
Heat 3-inches of oil in deep pan to 350-degrees F.
Step 5:
Add 7 to 8 pieces of chicken to pan. Cook for 5 mins or till crispy & golden brown. Repeat process with remaining chicken.
Step 6:
Drain chicken on paper tissues.
Step 7:
While chicken is cooking, mix the soy sauce, honey, ketchup, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil & 2 teaspoons of cornstarch in bowl.
Step 8:
Heat the teaspoon of oil in large pan over medium-heat. Add garlic & cook for 30 seconds. Add honey sauce mixture & bring to simmer. Cook for 3 to 4 mins or till just thickened.
Step 9:
Add crispy chicken to the pan & toss to coat with sauce. Sprinkle with sesame-seeds & green onions, then serve.
Notes
The sauce can be made up to two days, before you plan to serve it.
